Safety is a major concern. HUBS regularly practice how to safely exit the building in case of an emergency with students and staff. We will usually try and do this when there are no visitors in school. However, should the alarm sound whilst you are in the building, you must leave with everyone else and go to the assembly point at the front of the school. This includes all parents and visitors.

Every day a variety of children come to Program Support for additional help in specific areas of curriculum. Some children, as ESL learners are at a different place in their learning and need some extra help to be able to cope with the demands of the classroom. Under the direction of Ms. Doris, the program is delivered with the assistance of Mr. Karl, Ms. Leanne, Ms. Noreen, and Ms. Nancy team. Each child is assessed and then we begin a program to raise their level of reading and or writing, spelling, comprehension so that they can better participate in the classroom at grade level. Reading and understanding English are the main focus of our program. Each child has different needs and their program is tailored to their needs. We want to teach the children strategies to enable them to be independent readers with the skill to solve at difficulty. We find out what they know and build on that.
We see children start out feeling very inadequate and in a few short weeks with intervention, they gain confidence as they realize they can master English with a little extra help. Their participation in class improves and what they are hearing from their teacher begins to be easier to understand. They have learned strategies they were lacking, to use daily to unlock unknown words and ideas. At the time some things are covered in class, some children are not ready to learn it, so in time they get behind.
Children may come to support at any point in the year when their teacher deems it necessary. Some children are ready to discontinue support as they have progressed so well. We will try them in class on their own but will keep a close watch to see that they are managing daily, meeting with success and having a more meaningful experience in class.
